Irrfan Khan may take the title role for the latest venture by the director of Amelia.
Helmer Mira Nair is keen to cast the Slumdog Millionaire actor in her adaptation of the novel The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
Hollywood studios have asked Nair to cast a big US name in place of Khan, who has appeared in her films The Namesake and Kosher Vegetarian.
The Reluctant Fundamentalist follows the life of a young Pakistani man in New York after the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
Nair reportedly plans to watch Kurbaan and other Bollywood films dealing with terrorism in order to get inspiration.
