Sonu Nigam was born on July 30, 1973 in Faridabad, Haryana, to Agam Kumar Nigam and Shobha Nigam. He has two sisters, Meenal and Neekita. Sonu got married to Madhurima on February 15, 2002 and has one son called Neevan. Both his father and mother are good singers. His father Agam Kumar was a popular stage singer in North India. He attended DJ Tyler School in Faridabad. His father was his first music trainer. He has also learnt music from Ustad Mohammad Tahir in Delhi. He set foot on the stage at the age of three. He accompanied his father and sang Mohammed Rafi songs. He used to accompany his father on his singing assignments in weddings and parties. He participated in and won several music competitions in his teenage years. He came to Mumbai at the age of 18 and started joined a distance learning graduate program. His first movie as a playback singer was the film Janum in 1990. He acted in movies like Kaamchor, Ustadi Ustad Se, Hum Se Hai Zamana, Taqdeer and Betaab as a child artist. His first big break came with the 1996 film Bewafa Sanam in which he sang the song Accha Sila Diya Tune…. He released several pop albums of his own including Kismat , Mausam, Deewana, Jaan, Yaad, Chanda Ki Doli, etc. Sonu has sung playback for countless Hindi movies. As well, he is a popular playback singer for many regional movies, singing effortlessly in many languages from Punjabi to Bengali to Telugu, and many more.He is very famous in south indian movies especially in Kannada.Sonu has done various charity work all over India as well as abroad for Dignity Foundation, Cancer organizations, Leprosy organizations, Blindness organizations, Womens welfare organizations, Kargil war affected families, Earthquake affected families. He also sponsors a child from the organization Crayon.
