Shantanu Mukherjee, popularly known as Shaan was born on September 30, 1972 into a Bengali family. He is the son of the late music director Manas Mukherjee and brother of singer Sagarika. He is married to Radhika and has two sons, Soham and Shubh. He is the grandson of Jahar Mukherjee. As a child, Shaan began his career by singing ad jingles. His big-time career began in 1995 with his first release, the remix album called Q-funk. Shaan belongs to the clan of original Indipop singers trying to strike a balance between playback singing and maintaining their identity as independent singers. It was not so long ago when we saw the brother-sister duo Shaan and Sagarika making waves on the music scene. While his sister cut one or two solo albums and then settled for marriage and motherhood, Shaan jumped on the Bollywood music bandwagon when he took to playback singing in a big way. Beginning his innings with the chartbuster Musu Musu… from the film Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi, he has sung many memorable scores. Be it the soft non-filmi number Tanha Dil… or In Panchion Ko Dekh Kar…. from Koi... Mil Gaya, the peppy Koi Kahen…. from Dil Chahta Hai , the romantic Kuch To Hua Hai… from Kal Ho Na Ho, the boyish Ladki Kyun… from Hum Tum or Mein Aisa Kyun Hun…. from Lakshya, he has given us variety, excellence and consistency in contemporary Hindi popular music, over a short span of time. Shaan, the oh cho chweet…. pop-star, has been wooing the audiences since he stepped into Indian Music industry.
