Shitala Pandey, popularly known as
Sameer, was born on February 24th 1958 to Lalji Anjaan and Indira Pandey. His father was a noted Hindi lyricist, Anjaan (Lalji Pandey).He completed his Master’s Degree in Commerce from Banaras Hindu University before reverting to his first love – writing lyrics for films! He left the job because, he felt bank was not his world and finally entered the magic world of cinema. He started a new position as a bank officer at the Central Bank of India. The first song he wrote was
Gori Pareshan Hai Kali Pareshan Hai… from the Hindi film
Bekhabar in 1983. He came into limelight after he wrote the lyrics for the Hindi film
Dil in 1988. He has written lyrics for several Hindi films such as

Phool Aur Kaante,
Sajan,
Deewana,
Aaina,
Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke,

Kuch To Hai, etc. He has penned around 4,000 songs in over 500 Hindi films and more than 130 songs in 23 regional films, including Bhojpuri and Marathi language films. He has proved himself as a versatile lyricist. He had created a niche for himself. A self made musician with heavenly inspired talents, he remains the most popular lyricist of the times. Having served the Hindi film industry for 27 years, Sameer is still one of the busiest lyricists. He is married to Anita and has three children, daughters Sanchita and Suchita and son Siddharth.
