Paresh Rawal was born on 30th May 1950 in Paliad, Gujarat. He is an alumnus from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management and Higher Studies, Vile Parle, Mumbai. He moved to Mumbai at the age of 22. He went there to become a civil engineer. He is married to Swaroop Sampat, an actress and winner of the Miss India contest in 1979. They have two sons Aditya and Aniruddh.
He made his acting debut with the film
Holi in 1984. This was followed by many supporting and villain roles throughout the 80s and early 90s. He continued as a villain in Hindi films like
Arjun, Bhagwan Dada,

Samundar,
Dacait,
Khatron Ke Khiladi,
Kabzaa,
Ram Lakhan,
Hathyar,
Vardi,
Shiva,

Jigar, etc. He played the lead role of a well-known freedom fighter Vallabhbhai Patel in the Hindi film
Sardar in 1993. His notable roles include
Maya Memsaab, a film based on Madame Bovary, in which he played a scheming shop-owner who entraps the title character into a series of financial schemes and the critically acclaimed
Tammanna in 1996 where he played the challenging and ground-breaking role of a Eunuch who raises a young, orphaned girl, played by
Pooja Bhatt.
He proved his versatility in the block buster comedy film
Hera Pheri in 2000. He played a dim-witted and boisterous, but kind-hearted Marathi landlord Baburao Ganpatrao Apte in the film Hera Pheri who takes in Raju and Shyam in adverse times, and ends up in a get-rich-quick scheme when a kidnapper of the granddaughter of a wealthy businessman accidentally calls them to demand ransom. In 2002, he portrayed one of three blind bank robbers in the hit film
Aankhen. He reprised his role as Baburao in
Phir Hera Pheri in 2006 which was also successful. Later, he played comedy roles in films like
Bulandi,
Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge,
Hadh Kar Di Aapne,
Hulchul,
Bhagam Bhag,
Cheeni Kum,
Bhool Bhulaiyaa, etc. He is one of the greatest actors Indian film Industry has ever produced.
