Anil Kapoor was born on 24th December 1959 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His father Surinder Kapoor is a Film Producer. He is the brother-in-law of the actress Sridevi with whom he has starred in many films. His sister Reena is married to Sandeep Marwah of the Marwah Films & Video Studios in Noida Film City. One of his brothers, Boney Kapoor is a producer whilst Sanjay Kapoor, his other brother is an actor. In 1984, he married Sunita Kapoor and has two daughters and a son. His daughter, Sonam Kapoor made her debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali\'s Saawariya in 2007 opposite Rishi Kapoor\'s son, Ranbir Kapoor. His other daughter, Rhea, is studying in New York while his son Harsh is in school. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, Chembur. After school, he went to study in St. Xaviers College. His attempts to join the Pune Film Institute were in vain, as he failed in the written examination. His childhood dream of becoming an actor was fulfilled when he joined Roshan Taneja\'s Acting school. He started his career by doing supporting roles in films like Ham Paanch, Hamhare Tumhare, and Shakti and played his first role as a hero in the Kannada film Pallavi Anu Pallavi and Telugu film Vamsa Vriksham. His first lead role in Bollywood film was in Woh 7 Din\' and from thence on there has been no looking back. Then he performed in a melodrama Mashal directed by Yash Chopra for which he won many awards. He met commercial success with his film Meri Jung, where he played the role of a vengeful son who takes revenge on his father’s death.
His next successful film was Karmaa where he co - starred with Jackie Shroff and Nasurideen Shah. He performed the role of a science fiction hero who renders his helping hand to his mother land from terrorism and violence in the classic hit film Mr.India along with actress Sridevi. The film became one of the biggest hit of the year. In the year 1988, he created ripples with his romantic performance in the block buster Tezaab with actress Madhuri Dixit. Then he gave number of hit films such as Ram Lakhan, Parinda, Beta, etc. The year 1990, saw him play a dual role, as twin brothers in the successful Kishen Kanhaiya. He gave wonderful performance as Viren who eventually realizes his love for Pooja and not her mother anymore, who in fact had never loved him in the classical film Lamhe. He gave hit films like Juddaai, Deewaana Mastaana, Biwi No.1, and Taal within next 5-6 years.
He won many awards for his performance as an Army officer who is challenged of his career by his childhood friend Anjali in the hit film Pukar. With few box office failures, he tasted success with the 2005 thriller film My wife’s Murder which he also produced. It was followed with the Comic film No Entry, where his comic timings won him much appreciation. The film Welcome released in 2007 became one of the top box office hits where he portrayed the role of an underworld don. As a producer he produced films Badhaai Ho Badhaai, Gandhi My Father, and My Wife\'s Murder. His first English-language film Slumdog Millionaire rated him as a star of class. He played the game show host in the film, rags to riches story, based on the book Q&A by Vikas Swarup. The response to the film was positive. He is known for his trademark moustache, has been a part of Bollywood for thirty years. His crest of success rose highest in the eighties. He’s also a producer and is the director of Asian Academy of Film and Television, Film City Noida
